Communications and Sage Advice
Businesses and interest groups often seek to change laws or regulations in order to remove obstacles to their strategic objectives. When direct lobbying runs into a snag, a calm and experienced voice can help move the parties forward. I use indirect influence to create the right environment for success. You might say I bring the music that enables the dance.
My experiences in business and the law and my deep familiarity with Washington DC and various state legislatures put me in just the right place to make my skills relevant to solving policy objectives. In my experience, there is always a way forward.
My strong desire to make positive contributions to society has led me to Washington, DC not once, but twice. A Southerner, born and raised in Mississippi, I earned my degree in English Literature from Sewanee: The University of the South. After graduation, I headed north to work on Capitol Hill, in campaign politics and, eventually as a practicing attorney, receiving my Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center at night. In between, I lived in Atlanta, GA, a fine, thriving business center.
Campaign politics taught me a valuable lesson: there is always one more thing you can do to advance your cause. The law taught me that words matter and to pay close attention to detail. My time at AT&T (in Atlanta and DC) taught me to be strategic in problem solving and creative in identifying the levers of influence. And, leading an organization like the Arthritis Foundation, Georgia Chapter taught me a lot about how to sustain and strengthen an organization.
I have learned from some of the best. They have taught me to think strategically, to attack challenges creatively, and to value the perspectives of others. Facilitating this world is what I love to do. I am fortunate to be involved every day in a role that both contributes to our life together and brings me great satisfaction.
